SKILL-BASED REAL TIME GROUP COMBAT

EQNext featured combat far different from traditional macro heavy MMO gameplay.

  • Real time spatially telegraphed 3rd person combat.
  • Active dodging, blocking and combat locomotion.
  • Tab targeting with a reactive camera.
  • "Stand-on-your-own" classes with synergistic group abilities.
  • World destruction and deformation.

DYNAMIC THIRD PERSON CAMERA

EQNext's camera took inspiration from the best examples in the 3rd person action genre.

  • Players control character movement, zoom, panning, target locking and free aim.
  • A soft springy tether keeps the character and target near center screen with minimal overlap or screen jarring.
  • Environment hitbox interaction is smooth and trouble free, seamlessly shifting to 1st person if necessary.

COMPLEX CUSTOMIZABLE HUD

We opted for on-demand HUD elements over the traditional hot-button filled MMO HUD.

  • HUD elements are contextual, only appearing as needed.
  • A centralized combat HUD keeps all important information near center screen during hectic combat.
  • All health bars and other gameplay UI were designed with infinite extensibility in mind.
  • Players can customize the HUD with their own layouts, script, art and widgets.
