PROJECT HIGHLIGHTS

IMMERSIVE 2.5D MENU

Haunting music, flickering holographic animations and freezing cold art set the tone.

  • Parallax is achieved with dynamic Z depth animations and transitions.
  • Menu rotation is tied to the cursor for additional parallax and feedback.
  • Animated transitions dynamically blend multiple menus together.

FULL MULTIPLAYER SUITE

A full matchmaking suite is available through a simplified interface.

  • Player profiles and party management.
  • Ranked and unranked matchmaking.
  • Leaderboards, awards and stats.
  • Weapon and skill loadouts and progression.

FANCY UPGRADES

The progression sphere allows players to unlock upgrades towards their given playstyle.

  • Concepted with Illustrator and prototyped with Flash.
  • The final version is flash UI mapped to a hemisphere for a holographic look.
  • Full screen Flash FX add parralax, glitches and chroma shifts.
  • A branching hexagonal skill tree features a full purchase flow with confirmation.

DYNAMIC 3RD PERSON HUD

HUD elements are displayed as needed, otherwise hidden.

  • Important combat information is centralized, keeping the focus on the action.
  • Weapon scope overlays are tailored to each weapon.
  • Severe storms react with the HUD, glitching it out.
  • Traveling too far from the Rig's power source can cause the HUD to power down.
  • The HUD reboots cinematically.

DIEGETIC 1st PERSON MECH HUDS

Two pilotable mechs, each with a unique HUD, display game menus and all other information in-world on the vehicle itself.

  • The Utility Rig mech features an old worn down, partially analog HUD mixed with newer holographic displays.
  • The futuristic Vital Suit HUD is completely holographic.
  • Centralized resource information supports numerous bespoke reticles and ammo readouts.
  • Diegetic key prompts display immersive gameplay hints.
  • Full color custom fonts were used for the analog cockpit displays.
  • Gameplay feedback is realistic and immersive, supported by multiple "UI damage" states.
  • A simple radio interface supports external audio files with immersive "in-rig" playback.

DIEGETIC MENUS

Everything except for the front end and escape menus exist in-world, visible to the character.

  • Game menus emit from the character's wrist communicator.
  • Flash animations on the wrist communicator react to audio recordings and communications.
  • Menus include an inventory, a world map, area maps, a bestiary, an upgrade tracker and a collectible tracker.

EQUIPMENT & VENDOR INTERFACES

A universal trading UI was created to serve the various NPC traders in the game.

  • The UI was made tintable, including dynamic iconography, to give each vendor a unique appearance.
  • Shared UI has the added benefit of a familiar layout and low development cost.
  • Munitions lockers give players access to weapon loadouts and customization.

PLATFORM ART & ACHIEVEMENTS

I assisted with the creation of platform specific art and achievements.

  • Created and setup digital box art and identification on multiple platforms.
  • Helped design and setup 50 achievements with platform specific art.
  • Achievement iconography and other UI elements were published in a BradyGames paperback strategy guide.
