IMMERSIVE MAIN MENU

Illustrated menus over a live cell shaded background set a comic tone.

  • Menu animations and transitions are dynamic.

COMIC INSPIRED 3RD PERSON HUD

Yaiba's HUD is always animated, alive and reactive to gameplay.

  • A complex expandable health bar has multiple states and power meters.
  • Bespoke boss health bars with unique animation.
  • Animated scoreboards and personal record displays.
  • A combo counter with input history and trainer.
  • Comic styled 2D flip book video comms.
  • Full screen combat feedback.
  • Dynamic overlays for character introduction and cinematics.
  • Custom color grading and post process fx combine to make Cyber Vision.

TUTORIALS & REMINDERS

We created a tiered hint system to ease players into Yaiba's complex combat mechanics.

  • Modal popups explain new mechanics to beginner players.
  • Spatial prompts remind experienced players of important actions.
  • HUD prompts reintroduce rarely used abilities that may be useful.
  • Video and audio feeds give unintrusive time sensetive hints.

PROGRESSION & REPLAYABILITY

Animated comic interfaces were created to display progression, collectible and high scores systems.

  • Every level ends by racking up combined area scores in an ramping display.
  • Upgrades can be purchased through a unique tiered skill tree.
  • Looted items and powers can be inspected in the equipment screen.
  • Interactive collectibles are stored in the database screen.

EASTER EGG: RETRO MODE!

Beat the game to play a unique side-scroller mode inspired by the classic Ninja Gaiden on NES.

  • I designed, animated and scripted original retro-inspired titles, cinematics and the animated HUD.
